Gratiola viscidula – Aquarium Plant

Gratiola viscidula is a unique and attractive aquatic plant native to North America. Although it is relatively new to the aquarium hobby, its distinctive, slightly thorny appearance makes it easy to recognize and adds an interesting texture to planted aquariums.

This aquarium plant is relatively easy to grow and performs best under good aquarium lighting. With regular trimming, Gratiola viscidula can be maintained as a low-growing, dense cushion that works beautifully as a foreground or midground aquarium plant.

Each stem can grow approximately 1–2 cm wide and reach a height of 10 cm or more. The stems readily branch and spread, allowing the plant to develop into a thick and bushy appearance. Regular trimming encourages branching and helps maintain a compact shape in an aquascape.
