Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia is an attractive and hardy aquatic plant from the Araceae family, originating from the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It naturally grows in freshwater tidal areas and swampy environments, making it a versatile choice for freshwater aquariums and planted tanks.

This Cryptocoryne species is closely related to Cryptocoryne moehlmannii and can be recognized by its distinctive leaf coloration and inflorescence. It has been popular in the aquarium hobby for many years and is a great option for aquarists looking for a low-maintenance aquarium plant with a natural, tropical appearance.

With a potential height of around 10–40 cm, Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia works well as a midground or background aquarium plant, depending on the size and layout of your aquascape. Once established, it can create a beautiful, dense planting effect and provide shelter for small fish and shrimp.

Like many Cryptocoryne species, it may experience some initial leaf loss after being introduced to a new aquarium. This is commonly known as Cryptocoryne melt. With stable water conditions and proper care, new leaves can gradually develop as the plant adapts to its submerged environment.
