Staurogyne repens – Live Aquarium Foreground Plant
Staurogyne repens is a popular live aquatic plant originating from South America, ideal for creating a lush, green foreground or midground in a planted aquarium. It features small, spade-shaped, light-green leaves and a compact growth pattern that forms a dense, bushy appearance under suitable aquarium conditions.
Perfect for aquascaping enthusiasts in Sri Lanka, Staurogyne repens adds natural beauty and texture to planted tanks. Its low-growing habit makes it an excellent choice for creating green carpets, filling gaps between aquarium decorations, and enhancing the natural appearance of your underwater landscape.
Growth and Care Requirements
Staurogyne repens is an adaptable aquatic plant that can grow in both submerged and emersed conditions. However, it requires time to adjust when transitioning between these environments. With sufficient lighting, balanced nutrients, and CO₂ injection, it can maintain a compact growth form and develop healthy green foliage.
Inadequate lighting may cause the stems to grow vertically and become thin, while yellowing leaves can indicate nutrient deficiencies. Thin or weak foliage may also suggest insufficient CO₂ or unsuitable growing conditions. Regular trimming helps maintain its compact shape, and healthy cuttings can be replanted to propagate new plants.
