Amazon Frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum) is an attractive and easy-to-care-for floating aquarium plant that is well suited for both beginners and experienced aquascapers. Native to Central and South America, this popular aquatic plant is a great choice for adding a natural and relaxing appearance to freshwater aquariums.

Amazon Frogbit belongs to the Hydrocharitaceae family and is also commonly known as the South American Sponge Plant. It gets this name from its distinctive thick, rounded to spatula-shaped leaves, which have a spongy texture underneath. Its roots hang beneath the water surface, creating an attractive natural look while providing additional shelter for small fish and shrimp. As the plant matures, its leaves can grow above the water surface. Under suitable conditions, Amazon Frogbit may also produce small white flowers, adding extra visual appeal to an aquarium or planted setup.
