Bacopa myriophylloides

Bacopa myriophylloides is an unusual Bacopa species from Central Brazil. It occurs i.a. in the Pantanal swamp area, on wet bottom and in shallow water in full sun. It differs much from other Bacopa species in the aquarium hobby by its fine-leaved habit, resembling Myriophyllum or certain Rotala species. The needle-like, only few millimeters long leaves are arranged in whorls. The light green submerged shoots are very delicate and fragile. In its terrestrial form this plant develops nice light blue, long-stalked flowers.

As aquarium plant, this Bacopa needs much light and good CO2 and nutrient supply. Rather soft, acid water is recommended.

This delicate, rather small South American stem plant looks best as a group in the aquarium midground. In its emersed form it should also be interesting for well-lit paludaria where one may expect its showy, light-pink flowers.
