Pogostemon stellatus ‘Dassen’

Pogostemon stellatus ‘Dassen’ is a highly decorative and colourful stem plant that can become a stunning focal point in a planted aquarium. This attractive form of Pogostemon stellatus is known for its narrow, elongated leaves, which develop beautiful orange tones on the upper surface and pinkish-red shades underneath when grown fully submerged.

With its dense, fine-textured foliage, Pogostemon stellatus ‘Dassen’ creates an impressive bushy appearance and works particularly well as a midground to background aquarium plant. Its vibrant colours and distinctive leaf shape make it an excellent choice for aquascapers looking to add contrast and visual depth to a planted tank.

Growing Requirements

Pogostemon stellatus ‘Dassen’ grows best under strong aquarium lighting. Good lighting helps encourage compact growth and enhances the plant’s attractive orange and pink-red coloration. It prefers soft to medium-hard water and benefits from a consistent supply of CO₂, macronutrients, and micronutrients.

A water temperature between 24–28°C is particularly suitable for healthy growth. With suitable aquarium conditions and regular trimming, the stems can be maintained as a dense and attractive bush.

Aquascaping Uses

Due to its relatively large size and colourful foliage, Pogostemon stellatus ‘Dassen’ is ideal for creating a striking midground or background plant group. Planting several stems together can produce a dense, colourful bush that adds texture and contrast to planted aquariums.

It is a great choice for nature aquariums, Dutch-style aquascapes, and other high-light planted tanks.
